The Million Trees Foundation, Inc. (MTFI) of the Philippines and Denmark’s Grundfos have officially launched the “Circle of Life” project to strengthen tree-planting initiatives across the country. The program was inaugurated on August 18 at the La Mesa Watershed in Quezon City, a vital source of Metro Manila’s water supply. The event was led by retired Gen. Renaldo Velasco, MTFI chairman emeritus and founder of the Annual Million Trees Challenge, together with Melandrew Velasco, MTFI president and director.

The partnership underscores the shared vision of MTFI and Grundfos to fight climate change through concrete action planting trees to protect watersheds, conserve water, and ensure long-term ecological balance.

Protecting Water Through Trees

The “Circle of Life” project highlights the crucial link between forests and water. Trees play a key role in regulating water supply, preventing soil erosion, and protecting watersheds that provide clean water for millions of Filipinos. With the guiding principle, “for water to keep flowing, trees must keep growing,” MTFI emphasizes that tree planting is not only about greening the environment but also about safeguarding vital water resources.

By rehabilitating watersheds and forested areas, MTFI aims to enhance biodiversity, promote water conservation, and address the pressing issues of soil degradation. The project reinforces the need for long-term solutions that benefit both the environment and future generations.

Shared Commitment to the Future

Grundfos, the world’s largest pump manufacturer, is globally recognized for its advocacy in sustainability and environmental protection. Its collaboration with MTFI reflects its mission to reduce environmental impact and actively engage with communities where it operates.

The partnership demonstrates how the private sector and environmental foundations can work hand in hand to make a tangible difference. Together, MTFI and Grundfos are planting not just trees, but hope for a greener, more sustainable Philippines.

The “Circle of Life” project is a reminder that environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility and through collective effort, the country can ensure that forests thrive, water continues to flow, and communities remain resilient for generations to come.
