PH Passport Climbs to 72nd, Gives Filipinos Access to 65 Destinations

The Philippine passport has posted a modest improvement in global mobility, ranking 72nd in the latest Henley Passport Index. The ranking gives Filipino travelers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 65 destinations worldwide.

The country shares the 72nd spot with Mongolia and Sierra Leone, marking a gradual recovery after slipping into the high-70s in previous editions of the index.

Regional Travel Remains Convenient

For many Filipinos, the biggest advantage remains easier access to nearby Asian destinations.

Within Southeast Asia, Philippine passport holders can travel to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Myanmar through visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival arrangements, depending on local immigration rules.

Travelers also enjoy simplified access to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao.

More Options Outside Asia

Beyond the region, several Latin American countries welcome Filipino visitors without requiring a traditional visa before departure.

These include Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Other destinations accessible through visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry include Israel, Fiji, Morocco, and Vanuatu.

Still Behind Regional Leaders

Despite the improvement, the Philippine passport remains behind several Southeast Asian neighbors.

Singapore continues to hold one of the world's strongest passports, with access to more than 190 destinations without a pre-arranged visa.

Meanwhile, the United States has also seen changes in its global passport standing. According to the latest Global Passport Report by Global Citizen Solutions, the US passport now ranks 12th overall, keeping it outside the world's top 10.

The report evaluates not only visa-free travel but also factors such as investment attractiveness and quality of life, offering a broader measure of a country's global appeal.
