Danger-Level Heat Index To Hit 14 Areas, PAGASA Warns Public

Several parts of the country are expected to experience intense heat conditions as the weather bureau raised alerts over danger-level heat index readings in 14 areas, according to a Saturday advisory. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted that the combination of temperature and humidity will make conditions feel significantly hotter than the actual air temperature.

Heat index refers to how hot it feels to the human body when relative humidity is factored in with the air temperature.

Extreme Heat Expected Across Multiple Provinces

PAGASA reported that the highest heat index may reach 45°C in Dumangas, Iloilo and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. Several other areas are also forecast to experience dangerous levels of heat, including San Ildefonso in Bulacan at 43°C, Sangley Point in Cavite at 42°C, Aborlan in Palawan at 44°C, and Roxas City and Mamburao in Capiz both at 42°C.

Other areas include:

  • Iloilo City 43°C
  • La Granja La Carlota, Negros Occidental 44°C
  • Catbalogan, Western Samar 43°C
  • VSU Baybay, Leyte 42°C
  • Borongan, Eastern Samar 44°C
  • Guiuan, Eastern Samar 42°C
  • Cotabato City 43°C

According to PAGASA, heat cramps and heat exhaustion become likely under a danger-level heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C.

Widespread High Temperatures and Weather Conditions

Meanwhile, additional areas are expected to record a heat index of 41°C, including Aparri in Cagayan, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, Puerto Princesa City and Cuyo in Palawan, Legazpi City in Albay, Catarman in Northern Samar, Tacloban City in Leyte, Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur, and Davao City in Davao del Sur.

A heat index of 40°C is also forecast in several locations such as Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, ISU Echague in Isabela, Baler and Casiguran in Aurora, CLSU Muñoz in Nueva Ecija, TAU Camiling in Tarlac, Ambulong in Batangas, Romblon in Romblon, Daet in Camarines Norte, Siquijor, Mactan in Cebu, Maasin in Southern Leyte, Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, and Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur.

PAGASA also noted varying weather systems across the country, with cloudy skies and scattered rains expected in Batanes due to a frontal system. The rest of the Philippines may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought by the easterlies and localized weather patterns. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are also expected nationwide.

With widespread high heat conditions affecting multiple regions, the situation highlights the growing impact of extreme weather on daily life in the Philippines, where outdoor work, commuting, and basic health conditions are increasingly affected by rising temperatures.
