Former La Salle star and UAAP champion Kevin Quiambao is getting ready to travel to the US in June and July to try to get a spot on an NBA Summer League roster.

The aspirant Filipino basketball player is committed to being the first Filipino to play in the NBA.

The NBA Summer League will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 10 to July 20.

Backed Korean team and Pinoy patrons

According to a report by Korea's Jumpball, Goyang, the Filipino’s KBL team, fully supports Quiambao's choice.

After his debut season in the Korean Basketball League, the La Salle product is free to pursue his goals over the offseason as long as he is under contract with the KBL squad.

However, the two-time UAAP champion is required by contract to return to Goyang after his US visit.

The strong support for Quiambao's NBA goal is further demonstrated by the commitments of two well-known sports patrons in the Philippines to contribute to his journey, according to a report by Tiebreaker Times.

Other homegrown players who tried to fulfill their NBA dreams

For many young Filipino basketball players with NBA aspirations, including emerging star Kevin Quiambao, Kai Sotto is regarded as the pathfinder who rekindled their dreams.

Before Sotto, Japeth Aguilar, a graduate of Western Kentucky University and Ateneo de Manila, was asked to try out for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA D-League (now the G League) and took part in training. Another local star with Filipino ancestry, Ray Parks Jr., played with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2015 NBA Summer League.
