The Billiard Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) has been suspended for three months by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sport (ACBS) for a number of infractions.
Reasons of suspension
The Asian body has accused the BSCP of not properly caring for the Philippine billiard athletes, organizing international tournaments without the required approvals from either Asian or world governing bodies, and having conflicts of interest.
The local body was also accused of failing to hold a general election.
Through Secretary-General Wharton Chan, the suspension ruling was sent to the POC, who requested that Filipino sports officials establish a disciplinary committee "to investigate the violations."
PH as billiards powerhouse
Although the Philippines is known as a billiards powerhouse, it is unknown how this suspension will impact the local scene.
Putch Puyat, the President of the BSCP, and Roberto Mananquil, the Secretary-General, have not responded to the issue.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has been asked by the ACBS to oversee the sport's operations while the BSCP’s suspension is ongoing. The POC will supervise the participation of national athletes in important international competitions, such as the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China (August 7–17).
