Filipinos In Venezuela Safe Amid Rising Tensions, Embassy Says

All Filipinos in Venezuela remain safe despite rising political tensions following recent developments involving the United States and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Philippine Embassy in Colombia said Monday, January 5.

Embassy Maintains Close Monitoring of Filipinos

Philippine Chargé d’Affaires Judy Razon said the embassy has been closely monitoring the situation since January 3 through constant communication with the Filipino community in Venezuela.

“Simula po noong January 3, sinusubaybayan na po natin ang ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan po ng ating group chat with the Filipino community,” Razon said in an interview.

She added that all Filipinos have reported being in safe conditions, with no injuries or security incidents recorded so far, “Ayon po sa kanila, lahat naman po sila ay nasa safe na sitwasyon. Wala pong nasaktan, wala pong na-injure, at tahimik naman po doon sa kanilang mga lugar so far sa ngayon.”

DFA Accounts for 74 Filipinos in Venezuela

The Department of Foreign Affairs said there are 74 Filipinos currently logged in Venezuela. The embassy continues to stay in touch with them and has advised the community to remain alert, stay informed through official channels, and keep emergency contacts readily available.

Philippine officials emphasized that monitoring efforts remain ongoing as a precaution amid the fluid situation.

U.S.-Venezuela Developments Fuel Tensions

Tensions escalated after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had captured Maduro. The Venezuelan leader has denied the claim, accusing Washington of attempting to seize control of Venezuela’s oil reserves.

Maduro was reportedly taken to the United States to face several charges, including conspiracy related to narco-terrorism. Trump has also declared that the U.S. would take over Venezuela, heightening international concern.

Despite these developments, Philippine authorities reiterated that Filipinos in Venezuela remain safe and accounted for as the situation continues to be closely monitored.
