Grammy-winning artist and Black Eyed Peas co-founder Apl.de.Ap has teamed up with over 3,000 students from the Sisters of Mary Schools in the Philippines for a special Christmas song titled “It’s That Time of Year.” This collaboration, part of the Apl.de.Ap Foundation International (APLFI), showcases Filipino talent while raising funds to support children in need with housing, meals, and education.

The song captures the warmth and spirit of a Filipino Christmas, with Apl.de.Ap emphasizing the importance of the students’ involvement. “At the heart of this project are the kids—their talent, their potential, and their future,” he said. The initiative not only provides these young voices a platform to showcase their creativity but also gives them valuable experience in the music industry. For many students, the project offers a chance to explore career possibilities within the creative economy, from performance to production.

A Global Blend of Talent

Produced by Apl.de.Ap, Keith Harris, David “DQ” Quinones, Johnny Black, and Edgar “Artek” Sinio, “It’s That Time of Year” combines Filipino voices with world-class production. The students were actively involved throughout the process, learning everything from music composition to recording techniques. This hands-on experience is designed to inspire and educate the next generation of artists, providing them with tools for a future in music or other creative industries.

The project also fosters a sense of unity among Filipinos worldwide. By merging voices from the Philippines with Filipino American talent, it connects communities across oceans and showcases the power of collaboration within the global Filipino diaspora.

How to Support the Initiative

The music video for “It’s That Time of Year” premieres on December 12 on One Down’s YouTube channel, telling the heartwarming story of a lola (grandmother) rediscovering Christmas joy through a surprise visit from young Filipino children.

Supporters can listen to the song on streaming platforms like Spotify or donate to the Sisters of Mary Schools at [www.thesistersofmaryschools.org/donate] Contributions help provide essential resources for thousands of children, ensuring they have the opportunities they deserve.
