The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) have teamed up to offer exciting new opportunities for Filipino senior citizens in the tourism industry! A new program will provide training and open doors for seniors to work in places like tourist spots, hotels, and cultural sites.

Seniors Welcome in Tourism

Thanks to a new agreement signed in Makati City, seniors can now join tourism training programs through DOT’s regional offices. All they need to do is visit a DOT office or contact the NCSC to get started.

“We’re happy to include senior citizens in our training modules,” said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco. Right now, the NCSC is figuring out what kind of training will best fit the needs and skills of seniors.

So Many Ways to Join In

There are lots of options! Seniors can work as tour guides, help at resorts and hotels, or share stories about local culture and history. As long as they are physically and mentally fit, they can take part in the program.

“Every region has its own attractions. Whether it’s cultural sites, resorts, or tours—there’s something for everyone,” said NCSC officer-in-charge Mary Jean Loreche.

Travel and Work Made Better for Seniors

This program isn’t just about jobs. It also aims to make travel more enjoyable for senior citizens. The DOT plans to improve travel options, create more senior-friendly destinations, and even offer more discounts.

“We want seniors to enjoy tourism—not just work in it,” Secretary Frasco said. With this new partnership, support for seniors in tourism will continue all year round, not just once in a while.
