Actor Alden Richards recently revealed that he went through a silent battle with depression in late 2023, offering a rare glimpse into the emotional challenges he faced behind the camera.

Despite maintaining a busy and successful career, Richards admitted to reaching a low point where he struggled with feelings of self-doubt and emotional exhaustion.

The Difficulties He Went Through

He described this period as one of the most difficult he has experienced in his over ten years in the entertainment industry. The emotional weight came from a mix of personal, professional, and business-related concerns that left him feeling disconnected from himself and the world around him.

“I think last year, that was my lowest year,” Richards shared in an interview.

At one point, he even considered stepping away from showbiz entirely, feeling undeserving of the support and success he continued to receive.

Fighting Spirit

Instead of withdrawing, Richards turned to his work for healing. Projects like Five Breakups and a Romance and Family of Two became unexpectedly therapeutic, helping him process what he was going through. He said these films allowed him to confront emotions he had buried and reflect on the role he plays—not just as a celebrity, but as a person navigating real-life struggles.

What helped Richards regain balance was a combination of inner reflection, renewed faith, and a quiet commitment to keep moving forward. He emphasized the importance of learning to rely on oneself while still staying grounded in one’s values.

Breaking the Mental Health Stigma

His experience adds to the ongoing discussion about mental health, especially in high-pressure industries like entertainment. While many public figures silently endure their struggles, Richards’ openness reminds us that mental health challenges can affect anyone. His journey underscores the need for greater awareness, understanding, and supportive spaces where individuals can heal without fear of judgment.
