Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, a documentary on the Filipino rock group Eraserheads which was directed by Maria Diane Ventura, will be released in theaters on March 21 and 23 of this year.
The documentary tells the tale of the band's dissolution and reunion for a historic 2022 performance, which turned into a beacon of optimism amid political unrest.
Eheads’ legendary story
The documentary provides a perceptive look at how a bunch of ex-punks gathered together to provide a country a sense of relief while–possibly without realizing it–starting a healing process for a generation.
Maria Diane Ventura, the film's producer and director, feels that the movie is much more than just a depiction of a band's dissolution and the figurative clash of egos.
“This is a comprehensive deconstruction of the band’s mythology, humanity, complex relationship and the lasting mark they left on Filipino culture — one that transcends generations and differences,” Ventura said in a statement.
Cultural impact
Buddy Zabala, Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro, and Ely Buendia make up the band Eraserheads, which was founded in 1989.
The songs "Ang Huling El Bimbo," "Ligaya," "Pare Ko," and "With a Smile," among others, have been hits throughout their career.
They held their first reunion show in 2008 after splitting up in the early 2000s. The band got back together again for their "Huling El Bimbo" world tour last year.
