In a significant milestone for public transportation, Japan-based Zenmov Inc. has introduced the Philippines’ first publicly accessible self-driving bus service in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac. The service, named Primary Rapid Transit, utilizes advanced Smart Mobility Operation Cloud (SMOC) technology to operate autonomous buses across key routes including New Clark City, the Clark Freeport Zone, and Clark International Airport.
Cutting-Edge Technology Enhances Urban Mobility
The Primary Rapid Transit system is designed to revolutionize local travel with its sophisticated dispatching system, which optimizes bus routes based on real-time travel demand data. This initiative–a collaborative effort between Zenmov Inc. and MC Transport Operation Inc.--also includes the deployment of low-carbon electric vehicles, electric-assisted bicycles, smart poles, drones, and charging stations. These technologies aim to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the transportation network.
Strengthening Partnerships and Promoting Sustainability
The launch follows the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in October 2023 between Zenmov, MC Transport, and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). This agreement builds on an earlier memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the BCDA and Japan’s national research and development agency NEDO, established in January 2023.
BCDA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Atty. Gisela Kalalo emphasized that integrating Japan’s advanced transport technology will greatly benefit Clark’s residents and workers by easing daily commutes, reducing traffic congestion, and fostering a greener, more sustainable environment. This development underscores BCDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance public infrastructure and support transformative public-private partnerships.
