The Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11) has handed over a PHP5.8 million diversion dam project to help farmers in Barangay Bawani, Mawab, Davao de Oro.
The project–given to the Bawani Small Rice Farmers Association (BASRIFA)--would increase rice production in the municipality and improve farmers' livelihoods by providing a sustainable and dependable water supply, according to a statement from DA-11 alternate rice focal person Jacinto Macoy Jr.
Ensuring reliable water supply
By guaranteeing a consistent and sustainable water system, the initiative, which is sponsored under the rice program, seeks to increase rice output and enhance farmers' livelihoods.
“Now that we have a stable irrigation system that serves 23 hectares of rice land, you don’t have to depend on rainwater to irrigate your farms,” Macoy said.
Fernando dela Torre, the chairperson of BASRIFA, expressed gratitude to the DA and the national government for the project, pointing out that it will help farmers earn more money.
Assuring proper implementation
Additionally, Dela Torre guaranteed that the 33 farmer-recipients would operate and maintain their systems properly.
Governor Dorothy Gonzaga expressed gratitude to the agency for its ongoing assistance. She said, "Let's collaborate to bring more projects and achievements to Barangay Bawani."
