The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced that P1 billion will be made available to assist the victims of the Marawi Siege.
The DBM said in a statement that 574 beneficiaries would receive financial compensation, primarily for structural damages and death claims.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman approved the special allocation release order for the cash to compensate those who lost their houses and property due to the armed conflict that took place in 2017.
Aiding the people
Lawful owners of buildings in residential, cultural, and commercial domains, as well as other properties in areas impacted, destroyed, or damaged by the conflict, shall be compensated in accordance with the terms of the calamity fund.
In addition, the government will reimburse owners of private properties that were demolished as a result of the Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Program.
The Marawi Compensation Board (MCB), which oversees the disbursement of funds, will make it easier for eligible individuals to get tax-free compensation or reparations.
For death claims
The Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines stipulates that compensation will also be given to the families of those who perished during the siege.
According to DBM, the compensation may be claimed by the lawful heirs of the dead original property owner.
Over a thousand people were killed and nearly 200,000 communities were forced to flee as a result of the armed battle between government forces and the Maute group.
