The Surigao del Norte province administration intends to make Surigao City, located on the mainland of Mindanao, and its 11 towns into the most popular tourist sites in the Caraga region.

The provincial government is prepared to turn Surigao del Norte—which includes Surigao City—from a hub for access to nearby islands into a destination teeming with innovative new travel offerings following its designation as a non-insurgency zone.

“We have the existing tourist sites here in mainland Surigao del Norte and Surigao City, which visitors frequent. We will also focus on the emerging tourist sites in the municipalities considered free from insurgency,” said Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers during the opening of the Suroy Surigao Plus.

Boosting stunning sites

Governor Barbers emphasized the need to concentrate on and market the recently established and existing eco-tourism attractions in the towns of Alegria, Tubod, Mainit, Gigaquit, and Bacuag.

The stunning scenery of Alegria town, where adventurers hoping to travel into the heart of nature can find the Lumondo Hanging Bridge, is one of the most notable attractions just waiting to be discovered in Surigao.

In Tubod town, individuals looking for peace in the tranquil embrace of nature might find it at the Water Nature Adventure Park in Sitio Mahucdam, Barangay Capayahan.

The adventure area in Bacuag town and the hot springs in Mainit town are two more places that tourists frequently visit in Surigao del Norte.

Adventures await guests at Bacuag on a 250-meter hanging bridge that leads to the Puyo islet, where they can ride a 400-meter sky bike or an 800-meter zip line.

Bumping tourism numbers

With 530,719 visits last year, the province saw an 189.18 percent rise in tourist arrivals from 183,528 visits in 2022.

There were 476,971 local visitors out of the total number of visitors last year, and 53,748 overseas visitors.

Both Surigao City and the mainland's Surigao del Norte are prepared to highlight their newly developed tourism attractions and market them as top choices for tourists looking for uncommon experiences, according to the local government.
