The Philippine Navy vessel BRP Rizal (PS-74), a decommissioned navy ship, is set to be the newest tourist destination in the Dinagat Islands.

World War vessel

Originally the USS Murrelet (AM-372), the World War II-era ship will be transformed into a floating museum, hotel, and educational center for both domestic and international visitors.

After participating in the Korean War, the Auk-class minesweeper was moved to the Philippines in 1965 with US military support.

The decommissioning of the ship took place in January 2020.

Whether it is a real building on water or an idea examining art and community, a floating museum has enormous possibilities for environmental awareness, art access, and urban growth.

Tourism potential

Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. affirmed that his October 2022 request to purchase the BRP Rizal (PS-74), which needed US State Department authorization because it was American-made, was approved.

Noting the project's potential to increase local tourism, Demerey stated, "The people of Dinagat are grateful to both the US and Philippine administrations for this approval."
