The Kuyamis Festival in Misamis Oriental has been formally acknowledged as one of the Philippines' main festivals by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

From January 13 to 17, the province celebrated the 12th Kuyamis Festival, which included booth, street dance, and beauty contests as highlights.

Elevated in the national scene

According to local officials, the DOT accreditation improved the Kuyamis Festival's standing on the national cultural scene.

It was made official by Provincial Board legislation, which made it possible for the DOT to include it in its 2025 promotional efforts.

The event was established 12 years ago under former Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano's administration.

More than just a festival

The Kuyamis Festival also reflects the province's dedication to cultural preservation and economic stability.

By linking the celebration to development objectives, the province can increase tourism and create revenue for its stakeholders, helping it reach its goal of a single-digit poverty incidence rate.

Additionally, by uniting communities to celebrate their common past, the celebration fosters unity.
