Zamboanga del Sur recently hosted the 4th Kakao Festival at the Provincial Capitol, celebrating the local tradition of 'sikwate,' a chocolate drink deeply rooted in the region's history. The festival, held from February 11 to 14, showcased the unique flavor profile and cultural significance of 'sikwate,' made from locally grown cacao beans. With 23 exhibitors participating under the theme "Savoring the Chocolate Artistry & Innovation," the event aimed to boost cacao production and elevate the quality of chocolate products.

In his speech, Governor Victor Yu emphasized the festival's role in encouraging farmers and processors to increase cacao production while enhancing product quality. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry with support from the provincial government and various stakeholders, the Kakao Festival aspires to position Zamboanga del Sur as a leading producer of cacao-based products.
