In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services, SM Foundation, led by Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Connie Angeles, joined hands with Baguio City officials, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and City Health Officer Cecilia Brillantes, to unveil a state-of-the-art health facility. The P2.7-million modernized health center is poised to make a substantial impact, catering to the health needs of residents in 26 barangays covered by the Lucban Health Center.
“This is a testament of really putting into place all the three components of transformation that is innovation, sustainability, and resilience. When I came in, I never expected that our health centers could be transformed. Many thanks to the SM Foundation and SM City Baguio, who chose this place to modernize a transformation in what we promote to modernize our service to the citizens," Mayor Magalong cited.
The turnover ceremony marked a collaborative effort to provide an upgraded and responsive healthcare environment for the community. The facility's modern amenities and equipment aim to create a more conducive space for health services, aligning to support the health needs and recovery of those it serves.
The Remarkable Programs of SM Foundation
For numerous years, SM Foundation has dedicated itself to renovating and upgrading public health facilities. According to Angeles, the foundation has reached a significant milestone, successfully establishing 201 health and wellness centers in the country that have provided care to over five million patients. The Lucban Health Center marks the foundation's 201st improved health facility nationwide and the third wellness center in Baguio.
Innovative facilities and tools
The new health facility incorporates sustainable solutions into its physical infrastructure, featuring a rainwater catchment system, energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, and inverter appliances to optimize consumption.
While its design remains consistent with the old health center, notable enhancements have been made. The first floor now accommodates a consultation room, post-consultation room, pharmacy, triage area, admission area, breastfeeding room, minor operating and treatment room, autoclave area, sputum collection corner, physician's room, pantry, lounge, janitor's closet, hand-washing area, nursing office, and garbage collection area.
Various rooms and spaces including a mobile play cabinet, family planning, prenatal, and vaccination room, adolescent room, dental room, storage and records area, and the midwife’s office are also placed on the second floor.
This initiative reflects SM Foundation's commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and fostering a healthier future for the residents of Baguio City. The modernized health facility is not just a building; it represents a significant investment in the well-being and resilience of the local community.
