Recognizing Excellence in Conservation and Governance
The City Government of Santiago was notably awarded the "Rivers for Life" award, recognized for its significant impact on river conservation efforts, particularly with the Calao-Delinquente-Diadi River. This recognition by DENR Cagayan Valley Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan underscored the city's commitment to ecological preservation and effective environmental governance.Other cities also received accolades for their dedication to various environmental programs.
The city governments of Cauayan, Ilagan, and Tuguegarao were also honored for their effective implementation of ecological solid waste management, their adoption of urban biodiversity programs, and their consistent financial support to environmental initiatives. Law enforcement agencies were acknowledged for their active involvement in enforcing environmental and natural resources laws, especially in forest and wildlife protection, anti-illegal logging campaigns, and participation in "Oplan Baklas" and "Huli Week" operations.Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan extended her appreciation to these partners, emphasizing their strong commitment.
“We honor our partners whose collective efforts, strong commitment and unity brought our environmental goals to life,” Bambalan stated.

Collaboration for Sustainable Development
The DENR also recognized Cagayan Valley-based mining companies for their support in mining development programs and their participation in community outreach initiatives.These included OceanaGold (Philippines) Inc., operating the Didipio Mine Project in Nueva Vizcaya; FCF Minerals Corp., with the Runruno Gold-Molybdenum Project in Nueva Vizcaya; and Dinapigue Mining Corp. in Isabela province. Their involvement underscores a broader collaboration between the government, local communities, and industries.
Director Bambalan further stressed that collaboration is fundamental to achieving lasting positive change for the environment and future generations. The recognition event served not only to honor past achievements but also to inspire continued teamwork in tackling environmental issues within Region 2.
“Together, we have proven that collaboration is the key to sustaining meaningful change for the people, for the planet and for future generations,” Bambalan added.
