If you're planning a trip to Baler, there's a new stop worth adding to your itinerary.
The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) has officially opened NMP-Baler in Sitio Cabituculan, Barangay Reserva, giving visitors a new place to discover Aurora's rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture all under one roof.
The inauguration coincides with the 24th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, celebrating the long-standing historical and cultural ties between the Philippines and Spain.
A Museum That Tells Aurora's Story
More than just a gallery, NMP-Baler offers an immersive look into what makes Aurora unique.
The museum features three permanent galleries that showcase the province's history, biodiversity, traditions, and artistic heritage.
The Cruce de Caminos Gallery houses Encuentros Vivos (Living Encounters), an exhibit that explores the historical relationship between the Philippines and Spain.
Nature lovers will appreciate the Sierra, Tierra, Costa Gallery, which highlights Aurora's forests, coastlines, wildlife, Indigenous knowledge, and local traditions.
Meanwhile, the Pagtatagpo/Encuentro Gallery showcases works by renowned Filipino artists, giving visitors a chance to experience the country's rich artistic legacy.
The museum itself is also a highlight. Designed by acclaimed Filipino architect Ed Calma, the building draws inspiration from Aurora's cultural identity and the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, blending modern architecture with the province's natural surroundings.
More Than Just Exhibits
NMP-Baler is designed to be more than a place to view artifacts. Visitors can join gallery tours, community engagement activities, and educational programs that promote lifelong learning and a deeper appreciation of Philippine heritage.
Those looking to relax after exploring the galleries can also visit Oron by Crumby Crust Café, located inside the museum.
Free Admission for Everyone
Beginning July 1, NMP-Baler will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on officially declared government holidays. Admission is completely free.
As the newest addition to the National Museum's expanding network, NMP-Baler is expected to become one of Aurora's top cultural attractions. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply looking for something new to experience in Baler, the museum offers a meaningful way to discover the province beyond its famous beaches and surf spots.
