Do you know about the 15-minute city? It is a contemporary urban development idea that prioritizes people and the environment. The phrase describes ideal neighborhoods or cities where housing, employment, food, education, and cultural activities are all accessible within a 15-minute bike ride or walk.

One such city plan–dubbed the Pasay 360 Project–intends to develop an inventive, 15-minute tropical metropolis for more than 300,000 people in the next few years.

Situated on the periphery of a congested and densely populated metropolis, Pasay City’s new project–which will also be supported by SM Investments Corporation–will offer its citizens and guests a sustainable, inclusive, safe, and healthy way of life where everything they need is conveniently close by.

What they envision

Improved walking and bike infrastructure, as well as a variety of public transportation options, are all part of the project's goal for safe and environmentally friendly transportation systems.

There will be designated bike lanes, parking lots with electric vehicle charging stations, accessible public transportation hubs, and well-lit pedestrian pathways.

The Pasay 360 Project is anticipated to boost the economy, foster livelihoods, and develop the next wave of Filipino leaders.

The project's revenues are expected to provide a multiplier effect on the economy and around 300,000 additional jobs between 2027 and 2040. It is anticipated to employ 4% of the National Capital Region (NCR) workforce by 2035.

What makes a 15-minute city essential

The goal of a 15-minute city plan is to create an urban, human-scale model where the majority of a person's daily needs can be satisfied within a short bike ride or stroll from their home,

The notion of the 15-minute metropolis stands in contrast to the predominant urban-planning paradigms of the last century, which have segregated residential regions from commercial, industrial, and recreational sectors.

Cities like Barcelona, Paris, Portland, and Melbourne are among several across the globe that have embraced or are moving toward this type of urban planning.
