Travel through the Port of Lucena is set to become more convenient as its new passenger terminal building (PTB) prepares to open by the third quarter of the year. Built to accommodate up to 1,000 passengers at any given time, the upgraded facility is expected to ease long-standing congestion and improve the flow of travelers moving between Quezon province and nearby island destinations. The development positions Lucena as a more reliable and comfortable transport hub, especially during peak travel seasons.
Aligned with National Transport Goals
The project reflects the broader push of the Department of Transportation to modernize key infrastructure across the country. Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the initiative follows the directive of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to make ports more passenger-friendly and efficient. The Lucena terminal is expected to serve as a model for similar upgrades nationwide, highlighting the government’s focus on improving mobility and connectivity.
Designed for Comfort and Convenience
An inspection led by Jay Santiago of the Philippine Ports Authority and Teodorico Delfin underscored the terminal’s modern features. These include automated ticketing counters that will speed up transactions and reduce waiting times, as well as solar panels that support more sustainable operations. Once operational, the new terminal is expected to deliver a smoother, more comfortable travel experience for both regular commuters and tourists, helping strengthen regional tourism and local economic activity.
