Cervical cancer ranks as the third most common cancer among Filipino women, while breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the country. Despite these alarming statistics, screening rates have remained low, often due to limited access to affordable healthcare services. By providing free screenings, the Cavite Local Government Unit (LGU) and the DOH are actively working to remove these barriers, encouraging women to take proactive steps in managing their health.

In a commendable initiative underscoring the vital role of women in community development, the Department of Health (DOH) Region 4A, in collaboration with the local government of Cavite, conducted free cervical and breast cancer screenings for over 150 female teachers at Angelo Loyola Senior High School in Carmona, Cavite, on February 14, 2025.

Kanserbisyong Kababaihan

This initiative, part of the "Kanserbisyong Kababaihan" program, aims to strengthen early cancer detection and treatment for women. It aligns with the DOH's ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services for women, emphasizing that a community can only thrive if its women are strong and healthy.

Beyond cancer screenings, the Kanserbisyong Kababaihan program also offered HPV vaccinations, PhilPEN risk assessments, family planning consultations, mental health counseling, and HIV screenings. These services aim to expand women's access to preventive healthcare, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to maintain their well-being.

The Cavite LGU's commitment to women's health is further demonstrated through various initiatives. For instance, the Women's Welfare Program has been actively fostering a more progressive community for women, recognizing their essential role in societal development. Recent programs have brought together thousands of women, each benefiting from services designed to promote their health, well-being, and empowerment.

For Women, By Women

As we approach Women's Month, it is imperative to celebrate and promote such initiatives. Women are undeniably the cornerstone of every community, serving as educators, caregivers, leaders, and innovators. Their health and well-being directly influence the strength and resilience of the communities they nurture. By investing in women's health, we invest in the future of our society.

The DOH's efforts to empower women extend beyond medical services. By promoting health education and cancer awareness in schools and communities, they aim to create an environment where women are informed and proactive about their health. This holistic approach ensures that women are not only recipients of healthcare but also active participants in the discourse surrounding their well-being.

In conclusion, the recent cancer screening initiative for Cavite teachers exemplifies the profound impact of prioritizing women's health. As we celebrate Women's Month, let us acknowledge and support the indispensable role of women in our communities. Ensuring their health and well-being is not just a medical imperative but a societal one, fostering stronger, more vibrant communities for all.
