Efforts to promote safer streets in Muntinlupa are set to take a child-focused approach as the city prepares to open a 3,140-square-meter Road Safety Park. The facility, announced by Mayor Ruffy Biazon, is designed as an interactive learning space where children can develop traffic awareness and responsible road habits at an early age.

Interactive Learning for Young Road Users

The Road Safety Park is equipped with simulated roads, walkways, cycleways, a demo area, a signage zone, mock public transport stops, and even a railway area. Through these features, children will be able to practice proper road crossing, understand traffic signs, learn appropriate bike lane use, and appreciate the importance of sharing the road responsibly.

By recreating real-life traffic scenarios in a controlled environment, the city aims to make learning both engaging and practical. The initiative seeks to shape habits early, encouraging children to carry road safety principles into adulthood.

The mayor underscored the urgency of instilling discipline on the road, pointing to preventable accidents caused by overspeeding, failure to signal when turning, ignoring pedestrians, and unsafe pedestrian crossings. He stressed that many of these incidents result from a lack of knowledge and responsible behavior among road users.

“Most accidents could have been avoided if there was discipline and proper knowledge of traffic rules. So for me, road safety should not start when getting a license. It should start while still young,” Biazon said, emphasizing the importance of early education.

Shared Responsibility on the Road

Biazon described road safety as a collective duty between motorists and pedestrians. He also expressed gratitude to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for collaborating with the local government on the project, highlighting the importance of national and local coordination in promoting safer communities.

For Muntinlupa residents and the broader Filipino public, the Road Safety Park represents more than just a new facility, it is an investment in long-term safety. By teaching children proper road behavior early on, the city hopes to reduce future accidents, save lives, and foster a culture of responsibility that benefits families, commuters, and communities across the country.
