January 19 marked a significant milestone as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of JG Summit Olefins' expanded manufacturing facility in Batangas City – the petrochemical plant.

President Marcos Jr. underscored the pivotal role of this expansion in revitalizing the Philippine manufacturing industry. The facility, a linchpin in industrialization, contributes to moving up the value chain and ensuring a steady supply of critical production ingredients. With direct and indirect employment for 6,200 individuals, the plant is a major contributor to an industry projected to boost the economy by Php215 billion next year.

The expansion not only holds promise for national progress but also brings welcome opportunities for the residents of Barangay Simlong and Barangay Pinamucan Ibaba of Batangas City.

Empowering Education: Scholarships for the Youth

Scholarships are being extended by the company to children, particularly those in Junior High School. Valedictorians are also granted scholarships at the University of Batangas, ensuring support until they complete their college education.

Community Upliftment Through Abot Kamay Project

JGSOC's corporate social responsibility program, the Abot Kamay Project, has proven instrumental in enhancing the livelihoods of women in the community. By providing opportunities for income generation, the project aims to make women more active contributors to the community. Furthermore, JG Summit is addressing basic needs by initiating the construction of comfort rooms for households lacking these facilities, with ongoing surveys to identify families in need.

Economic Impact: Job Creation and Assistance to Families

JG Summit has become a major employer in the region, providing jobs for 33 percent of Pinamucan Ibaba residents and 40 percent of those in Pinamucan Itaas. The corporation has consistently supported families by distributing food supplies, medicines, and offering free medical services annually, in collaboration with local barangays.

Environmental Stewardship: One Million Trees Project

JG Summit has demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability through partnerships with the Provincial Government of Batangas and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The One Million Trees Project, launched in 2016, aims to plant indigenous and fruit-bearing tree seedlings until 2023. Additionally, JGSOC supports eco-friendly practices such as hydroponics, providing training and materials to the barangays, along with distributing solar lights.

City of Batangas Welcomes Positive Impact

The expansion of JG Summit has garnered praise from the city government of Batangas, recognizing the corporation's positive impact on the community. As JGSOC continues to contribute to various aspects of community development, the city anticipates further positive changes benefiting its residents.
