Given the value of family planning initiatives for both men and women, more fathers are using non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) treatments in the Cordillera region, according to a physician who oversees their implementation.
“We only get about one to two clients in a year. It is not very popular with men then, not realizing of their important role in family planning and reproductive health,” Hora said in a press conference
The Baguio Health Services Office (HSO) began offering NSV services in 2010, and has since been utilized more and more throughout the years.
What is NSV
For around fifteen minutes, the guy has minor surgery as part of the permanent technique of contraception known as NSV. This is accomplished by severing the vas deferens.
According to Hora, this method of birth control is 99 percent successful, but it is a lifelong choice that cannot be changed.
The number of doctors who can do the surgery also grew to 25 in the city.
More professionals
Professionals like doctors, lawyers, and office workers who are typically 30 years of age or older make up most of those who use the service.
However, others are construction workers.
Aside from individuals that used the free service in earlier months, 50 people used it during an NSV campaign in November of 2021.
According to Hora, 48 people participated in the November campaign in 2022 and 2023.
