Angeles City, Pampanga was crowned Asia's Best Emerging Culinary City Destination at the World Culinary Awards Gala Ceremony in 2024, cementing the city's reputation as a rising star in worldwide food tourism.
The city faced competition from other well-known Asian dining locations, such as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Kyoto, Japan; and Taipei, Taiwan.
"This prestigious recognition of Angeles City as Asia's Best Emerging Culinary City Destination underscores the exceptional talent, creativity, and dedication of its local chefs and food artisans," Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said
True to its bill
Recognized as the "culinary capital" of the Philippines, Angeles City is located in Metro Clark's central business district, along with Mabalacat and San Fernando City.
The city is recognized for its renowned pork sisig, which has won it the title of "Sisig Capital of the Philippines." Every December, the Sadsaran Qng Angeles, or Sisig Festival, is held.
It is also well-known for other traditional Kapampangan foods such tidtad, or blood stew, bringhe, or Kapampangan paella, and tokwa't baboy.
Snacks like tibok-tibok (carabao milk pudding) and kamaru (fried insects) are part of the city's street food scene.
World-class recognition
“Angeles City’s accolade is a testament to how food can be a driving force for tourism, and we look forward to continuing our work in highlighting the diverse flavors and rich food culture that define our country,” Secretary Frasco added.
Blackbird in Nielson Tower is another Philippine nominee for Asia's Best Landmark Restaurant in this year's awards.
