The Sison Auditorium in Lingayen, Pangasinan, was filled with celebration on Monday, July 29, as the provincial government honored Nikki Buenafe, who won the Miss Multinational title at the Miss World Philippines pageant on July 19. This marks a historic first for Pangasinan, and the entire province came together to celebrate Buenafe’s achievement.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed Resolution No. 704-2024 in her honor, acknowledging her as a source of pride for Lingayen, Pangasinan. Buenafe, meanwhile, expressed her excitement about showcasing the province and the Philippines on the global stage, stating, “I am excited to showcase the beautiful culture of the Philippines and of Pangasinan. Once they see it, I am sure they will love it.” She will represent the country in India for the international title this December.

Advocacy with Purpose: Fostering Community Development

Buenafe’s advocacy, aligning with the “beauty with a purpose” theme of Limgas na Pangasinan, focuses on providing potable water to underserved communities. During the competition, she collaborated with non-government organizations to install a deep well in a remote area of Binmaley, her hometown, ensuring clean water access. “I hope to inspire organizations, fellow citizens, and corporations to invest in basic needs for barangays lacking these essentials,” Buenafe said.

Shining a Light on Pangasinan: Boosting Tourism and Economic Growth

Governor Ramon Guico III highlighted how Buenafe’s international platform boosts Lingayen, Pangasinan’s tourism potential. “Buenafe’s victory provides a unique opportunity to showcase our rich heritage and picturesque landscapes globally,” Guico noted. Her success, showcased through pageant promotions, is expected to enhance the province’s visibility, attracting more visitors and investors.

Tourism experts believe that having a local beauty queen on the world stage can significantly increase a destination's appeal. Maan Tuazon-Guico, chairperson of the provincial beauty pageant’s executive committee, echoed this, expressing gratitude for Buenafe’s representation and reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to supporting her international journey.
