A proud Igorota is manning some of the county’s top aircrafts.

Meet Lei Vannette Alangui, a woman with origins in Sagada, Mount Province, who is one of the few women in Philippine law enforcement and national security to have overcome numerous challenges as well as demonstrated abilities and inventive ideas in her craft.

She hails from the Aplai tribe in Sagada and graduated from the Philippine Air Force Officer Candidate course in 2017.

An outstanding woman

Alangui is among the recipients of the 2024 OWLENS (Outstanding Women in Law Enforcement and National Security) Awards, signifying her body of work and dedication for the country.

Republic Defenders (RD) and Robinsons Land Corporation collaborated to create the OWLENS, an annual search that honors the outstanding accomplishments of Filipino women to national security and law enforcement.

Alangui holds fort the 15th strike wing, which conducts counter-insurgency, and special warfare operations.

More than a soldier

In addition to her full-time job as a trained military pilot in the Philippine Army, Alangui is also a registered nurse, often giving first aid to her comrades.

Three years before her graduation, she passed the 2014 licensure exam to officially become a licensed nurse.

She joined the Air Force in 2018 and went on a rigorous training for 15 months before graduating to be a pilot.

Now, Alangui serves as one of the most important assets for the Philippine Air Force.
