Senior high school (SHS) children from low-income households in Borongan, Eastern Samar, will have access to a secondary agricultural school built by the local government.
Edgar Tenesas, the superintendent of City Division, recently presented the school's framework to the local education board.
For senior high school pupils, the Borongan City Agricultural School will provide a specialized education focusing exclusively on agricultural tracks.
Free agricultural education
According to city information officer Rupert Ambil, the school will be located on local government land in Camada village and will open in 2025.
The creation of an agricultural school with a focused SHS program complements the local government's flagship initiative, Dukwag Agrikultura, which offers interest-free, collateral-free loans to Borongan farmers to boost their output and assist them in taking up small to medium-sized business ventures.
The creative infrastructure design of the school building, which is appropriate for real agricultural processing and preparation, is one of the project's distinctive features.
The school's infrastructure will be built for many uses, enabling short courses and extension classes to keep the curriculum going.
Model school
According to the municipal government, the school can be used as a model to improve the agricultural needs of the nation's cities and provinces.
The agricultural school will be the first in the area to implement such progressive techniques since its curriculum will be community-based and tailored to the unique demands of the area and the difficulties presented by climate change.
To guarantee compatibility with its agricultural programs and provide a smooth transition from high school to college, Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) will also contribute to the curriculum design.
