All Eyes on Pasundayag sa Pagtuo and Pasidungog as Cebu Marks 457 Years

Cebu Province is set to celebrate its 457th Founding Anniversary with two events expected to draw attention from across the province: the return of Pasundayag sa Pagtuo and the debut of Pasidungog on August 29.

Both celebrations, organized by the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), will transform the Cebu City Sports Center into a showcase of Cebuano culture, faith, and local traditions. Around P20 million has been earmarked for production, participant subsidies, and volunteer incentives.

Pasidungog Ushers in a New Festival Tradition

Taking center stage this year is the launch of Pasidungog, a new province-wide festival showcase envisioned to become an annual signature event.

Unlike the former Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, this year's Pasidungog will not be a competition. Instead, it will serve as a preview of what's to come, with seven local government units already confirming their participation: Borbon, Carmen, Dumanjug, Argao, Naga City, Carcar City, and Toledo City.

According to PTO head Rowena Montecillo, participation is voluntary, with each contingent receiving about P2 million to help fund preparations and logistics. The province hopes to expand the event into a larger celebration in the coming years.

Pasundayag sa Pagtuo Returns to Celebrate Cebu's Faith

Returning for its second year, Pasundayag sa Pagtuo will once again honor Cebu's deep religious heritage through a grand procession of patron saints from participating towns and cities.

Decorated carrozas carrying sacred images will travel from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to Fuente Osmeña before culminating at the Cebu City Sports Center. Mainland municipalities will receive P100,000 in assistance, while island towns will receive P120,000 to support transportation and other logistical expenses.

Province Eyes Full Participation

Organizers are hoping to replicate last year's strong turnout, with invitations expected to be extended to all municipalities under the province, as well as Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City.

As Cebu marks 457 years of history, Pasundayag sa Pagtuo and Pasidungog are poised to become the centerpiece celebrations that bring communities together through culture, devotion, and shared heritage.
