Aklan Receives P26.5-Million Healthcare Assistance From PCSO

Improving access to healthcare services remains a priority for many provinces, particularly in areas where medical resources and emergency transport options are limited. In Aklan, a new package of medical assistance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is expected to help strengthen the province’s healthcare capabilities and expand access to essential services.

The support package, valued at P26.5 million, includes patient transport vehicles and advanced medical equipment that will be utilized by the provincial government and a key public hospital. The turnover was led by PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles, while Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Martin Miraflores formally accepted the assistance on behalf of the province.

Patient Transport and Medical Equipment Support

Among the major components of the assistance are two Patient Transport Vehicle units awarded to the Provincial Government of Aklan. These vehicles are expected to enhance emergency response operations and improve the movement of patients, particularly those living in geographically isolated and underserved communities.

The Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital was also among the recipients of the aid package. The hospital received a low-temperature plasma sterilizer, a fully automated PCR system, four ventilators, and an anesthesia machine. According to PCSO officials, these medical assets are intended to improve the hospital’s capacity in diagnostics, surgery, infection prevention, and critical care services.

During the turnover ceremony, Robles stressed that healthcare assistance should remain focused on public welfare rather than politics.

“We do not look at our charitable programs from a political perspective. The President’s instruction is clear: healthcare should not be politicized. That is precisely what we are putting into practice and implementing today,” Robles emphasized.

Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare

Robles also highlighted the importance of ensuring that low-income Filipinos receive quality medical care regardless of their financial capacity.

“It is important that poor Filipinos have access to healthcare options. Even if they are unable to pay, they should still be able to receive quality medical services comparable to those available in private hospitals,” Robles added.

Apart from the vehicles and equipment, Aklan also received P363,914.26 from PCSO lotto revenues covering the period from July to December 2025. The allocation is intended to help fund local government initiatives, including healthcare-related programs and other public services.

Governor Miraflores expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the additional resources will help improve healthcare delivery and broaden access to medical services across the province.

For Aklan residents, the new transport vehicles and upgraded hospital equipment could mean faster emergency response, improved diagnostic services, and better treatment options. More broadly, investments in provincial healthcare infrastructure help strengthen the country’s public health system by making quality medical care more accessible outside major urban centers.
