The Cebu Coalition of United Vendors Association (CCUVA) has initiated a journey towards empowering its women members through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their skill sets. Spearheaded by Maria Pino as its chairman, CCUVA boasts a membership of over 5,000 vendors, comprising both men and women across Cebu. This strategic initiative reflects the organization's commitment to preparing its members for success in the modern era.
Senator Pia Cayetano, an ardent advocate for women's empowerment and progress, lent her support to this endeavor during a recent visit to the women vendors affiliated with CCUVA, coinciding with International Women’s Month celebrations. Cayetano's visit was not merely ceremonial; it was a platform for imparting invaluable insights and encouragement to the vendors.
Cayetano's Perspective on the Use of AI
During her address, Cayetano emphasized the transformative potential of AI, urging the vendors to perceive it as an opportunity rather than a threat. Drawing attention to common apprehensions surrounding AI, Cayetano underscored the importance of embracing the technology with an informed and proactive mindset.
Highlighting AI's capacity to create new opportunities across various sectors, Cayetano reassured the vendors that the essence of human touch and expertise could never be fully replaced by machines. She illustrated how AI can complement human skills, enhancing efficiency without compromising the unique qualities individuals bring to their work, whether it be in cooking, crafting, or service provision.
Empowering Women in the Workplace
Acknowledging the unique hurdles women encounter in managing both their professional commitments and personal duties, Cayetano advocated for a thorough examination of how AI could assist in maintaining this balance.
Cayetano appealed to employers to acknowledge and respect the multifaceted roles of women, including their responsibilities outside the workplace. She stressed that fostering a supportive workplace environment would lead to increased productivity and contribute to building a more inclusive society.
