PBBM Secures Prosperity: Fresh Investments Flourish from 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniv Summit

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. returned to Manila from his three-day trip to Tokyo, Japan, on December 18, having secured fresh investment commitments totaling P14.5 billion.

The President met with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and other leaders from the ASEAN region as part of the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Relations. During these engagements, he participated in a series of discussions aimed at solidifying diplomatic ties and fostering economic collaboration. 

“My Administration will see to it that our constructive engagements with ASEAN, our external partners, our stakeholders continue to best serve our national interest in as much as we promote the regional interest of Peace and prosperity for the wellbeing of our people. Without a doubt, this summit reaffirmed the robust and enduring character of ASEAN-Japan relations,” the president said.

Economic Boost and Job Generation

The signing of nine letters of intent and Memorandum of Agreements (MOUs), totaling P14.5 billion, is poised to generate over 15,750 additional jobs. When combined with prior commitments, Japanese investments now stand at an impressive P771.6 billion, with an anticipated job creation of approximately 40,200.

Advocacy for Myanmar and International Cooperation

PBBM addressed the pressing humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, urging proactive engagement through the 5-Point Consensus, United Nations mechanisms, and the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) center. His call highlights the Philippines' commitment to regional stability and peace.

Creative and Sustainable Economy

Delivering a keynote speech at the Creative and Sustainable Economy through Innovation Event, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, PBBM showcased collaborative projects between Filipino fashion designers and Japanese textile manufacturers. This underscores the importance of creative industries in enhancing economic ties.

Environmental and Maritime Cooperation

The trip culminated in the signing of two significant Memorandum of Cooperation. The first, between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, focused on environmental protection. The second strengthened cooperation between the coast guards of the Philippines and Japan, emphasizing maritime security.

Clean Energy Diplomacy

Participating in the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) Leaders meeting on the final day, the President apprised partner countries of the Philippines' endeavors toward a cleaner energy transition, emphasizing our commitment to sustainable development.

President Marcos’ participation in the ASEAN-Japan Summit marks a pivotal moment in strengthening regional ties, fostering economic collaboration, and addressing critical global issues. 

This three-day diplomatic journey signifies the Philippines' commitment to regional stability, economic prosperity, and sustainable development.
