The Philippines has been selected to host the 2026 United Nations Tourism World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, a major event that will bring together government officials, chefs, innovators, and advocates from more than 150 countries. The forum will focus on how food tourism can promote inclusive economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainability.
The event marks the 10th edition of the UN Tourism World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, which serves as a platform for global dialogue and cooperation on food as a driver of tourism and community development.
A Recognition of the Country’s Culinary Identity
UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said the Philippines was chosen for its strong efforts to strengthen local food systems and celebrate its diverse culinary heritage. He noted that the country’s initiatives to empower communities, especially women and youth, through food and tourism align with UN Tourism’s global priorities.
According to the 2024 Philippine Tourism Satellite Account (PTSA), food and beverage services contributed 8.04%of the total Tourism Direct Gross Value Added and made up 17.1% of inbound visitor spending. With more than 6.7 million Filipinos employed in tourism-related industries, the sector plays a crucial role in supporting livelihoods, particularly in food and hospitality.
Building on the Cebu Call to Action
This upcoming global event follows the Philippines’ hosting of the first UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific in Cebu in 2024. That regional gathering produced the Cebu Call to Action on Gastronomy Tourism as a Driver for Sustainable Development, which emphasized the importance of using gastronomy to empower local producers and promote responsible travel.
Hosting the 2026 forum places the Philippines in a position to further advance discussions on how food tourism can drive sustainability, preserve culture, and support inclusive growth, showcasing Filipino cuisine not just as a source of pride, but as a meaningful contribution to global tourism and cultural exchange.
