The Philippine National Para Games have returned after a five-year hiatus, with over 900 competitors taking center stage at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and PhilSports from November 11–14.
Malolos, Bulacan hosted the last Games in 2019, however, they were postponed in the following years because of COVID-19.
Archery, athletics, badminton, boccia (a precision ball sport), chess, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball are among the nine sports offered in the Games.
Championing Para sports
Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) and Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) president Mike Barredo said the game would represent the championing of Para sports in the country.
“Our objective remains, which is to champion Para sports development and inclusion,” said Barredo.
It will be the eighth staging of the Para Games in the country.
Cities’ pride
The Games, which will begin with a classification seminar on November 7 and the actual classification for Para athletes from November 8 to 10, will feature 72 cities and provinces.
Last August, the country also participated in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, but failed to snag any medal in the biennial event.
