Filipino gymnastics superstar Carlos Yulo made a triumphant comeback to the global stage after clinching the vault gold medal at the 53rd FIG Men’s Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. The victory marked his second World Championships crown in the event, three years after he first ruled the vault in 2021. With an average score of 14.866, Yulo once again cemented his status among the world’s elite gymnasts.
Stunning Vault Execution
Yulo, who stands at 4-foot-11, delivered two high-difficulty vaults which powered him to the top of the podium. He opened with a piked Dragulescu, cleanly executed and aided by a 0.100 bonus, tallying 15.200 points. His second vault—a handspring 2.5 twist—saw only a slight hop upon landing, securing 14.533 and the winning average.
The performance showcased Yulo’s balance of explosive strength and precise form, the trademark qualities that have made him one of the sport’s most compelling competitors.
Two-Medal World Championships Finish
The newly crowned vault champion also bagged a bronze medal in the floor exercise the day prior, giving him a solid two-medal haul in his Worlds return. Yulo chose to skip last year’s edition to recover after his outstanding run at the Paris Olympics, where he topped both the floor and vault finals.
The 25-year-old resumed competitive action in June at the Asian Championships in South Korea, immediately returning to form with a gold in floor exercise and bronzes in all-around, vault, and parallel bars.
A Growing Gymnastics Legacy
This latest triumph adds to Yulo’s three career gold medals at the World Championships, including his historic 2019 floor exercise victory in Germany. As he continues to elevate Philippine gymnastics on the world stage, Yulo’s Jakarta victory signals not only a powerful comeback, but the promise of even more success ahead.
