The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) officially welcomed the Titan Ultra Giant Risers into its roster of franchises, following the successful takeover of the NorthPort Batang Pier by Pureblends Corporation. The announcement was made during the Season 50 press conference held at Shangri-La The Fort on Wednesday.
Board treasurer Atty. Raymond Zorilla confirmed the approval, noting that Pureblends will now field its own squad in Asia’s first professional basketball league.
"We'd like to announce to everyone formally, that the Board of Governors had approved and accepted the purchase of Pureblends Corp. of the NorthPort franchise, and they will be entering the 50th season of the PBA," Zorilla declared.

The team will carry the Titan Ultra brand, marking Pureblends’ first foray into professional basketball. Pureblends team governor Emilio Tiu was formally introduced as the franchise’s representative to the PBA Board.
"Their representative to the Board whose nomination has likewise been accepted. Let me introduce governor Emilio Tiu as the representative of Pureblends to the PBA Board," Zorilla added.
Pureblends completed a full acquisition of the NorthPort franchise, retaining only coach Rensy Bajar from the former staff. Veteran tactician Johnedel Cardel will now serve as head coach, supported by deputies Raymund Tiongco, Raymond Valenzona, Maverick Chua, and Lester Alavarez.
Roster Ready for the Challenge
Despite the transition, the Giant Risers kept NorthPort’s veteran core of Calvin Abueva and Joshua Munzon, while also adding fresh talent with Von Pessumal, Jeo Ambohot, and Aljun Melecio.
"For the composition of the team, I have to admit that we're still young, but we have a complete lineup and we will give the strong teams a good fight without saying 'Kuya.' Kami ay lalaban din," vowed Tiu.
The entry of Titan Ultra comes as the PBA celebrates its milestone 50th season, a fitting backdrop for the league’s newest franchise. Tiu expressed optimism about the journey ahead, highlighting both the learning opportunities and the potential for growth.
"We are very happy that we are formally accepted by the PBA. We waited for this event dahil ibang klase itong 50th (anniversary) ng PBA. Expected na when we join them (PBA), we will learn so many things and then we can also expand together with the league," he said.
With a blend of seasoned veterans, promising newcomers, and a determined management, the Titan Ultra Giant Risers are set to make their mark as the league embarks on a historic season.
