As torrential rains brought by Typhoons Crising and Dante, along with the intensified effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), continue to impact communities across the country, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is calling for urgent donations to support animals and pet owners affected by the severe weather.
Relief Operations Strain Shelter Resources
In a statement on Tuesday, July 22, PAWS shared that its team has been working non-stop to repack and distribute relief goods for animals and their guardians in storm-hit areas. However, the group admitted that the relief drive has already begun to deplete their own shelter’s resources.
“To most quickly provide support, we’ve been taking from our shelter’s own available supply, but now, we urgently need your help to sustain our Disaster Relief Operations,” PAWS said.
The organization is known for its rapid response in times of crisis, but with multiple weather disturbances and a growing number of affected families, public support is more critical than ever.
What You Can Donate
PAWS is accepting in-kind donations to help replenish essential supplies for both animals and humans. The most urgently needed items include:
- * Dog and cat food (canned or kibble)
- * Collapsible cages and crates
- * Old towels
- * Canned goods for humans
- * Rice
Donations may be dropped off from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center, located at Aurora Blvd. cor. Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
Advocates Call for Animal-Inclusive Disaster Plans
In support of PAWS’ appeal, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia also reminded the public to include animals in emergency and evacuation plans during typhoon season. The group emphasized that disasters often leave pets vulnerable when not properly accounted for.
