Enhancing Naval Support Under EDCA
The new vessel repair facility will be built inside Philippine military installations and funded by the U.S. under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA). Despite foreign funding, the Philippines will keep full ownership and operational control, ensuring the facility addresses local defense and humanitarian needs.
“The facility to be built ‘will provide repair and maintenance capabilities for several small Philippine military watercraft and will include two multi-purpose interior rooms suitable for equipment storage or conference use,’” the U.S. embassy said.
By placing repair capabilities closer to the West Philippine Sea, the facility is expected to cut downtime for patrol assets, keeping them mission-ready and visible in critical waters.
