Young Filipinos are urged to reflect on Rizal’s legacy as concerns grow over an “all-time low” in nationalism and love of country among today’s youth. The newly installed leadership of the Knights of Rizal – Anda Circle is calling for renewed efforts to reconnect the younger generation with the values of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

The call to reflect on Rizal’s legacy comes amid warnings about digital misinformation and ideological confusion that threaten to distort young Filipinos’ sense of identity. Leaders stress that rediscovering Rizal’s teachings can help guide the youth toward civic responsibility and national pride.

Relevance of Rizal’s Values Today

Dr. Michael Raymond Aragon, the chapter’s new commander, highlighted the urgency of strengthening Filipino identity through education and engagement. In his speech, he reminded the audience, “Our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal correctly declared that our youth is the future of our motherland.”

Aragon linked modern challenges, such as online disinformation and social division, to the need for renewed grassroots programs inspired by Rizal’s advocacy. These efforts aim to build critical thinking, compassion, and patriotism among Filipino youth.

He emphasized that the organization’s motto, “Doing for the sake of others,” will guide their mission to mold young Filipinos into socially responsible citizens. Initial projects include supporting health, nutrition, and education programs, especially for marginalized and out-of-school youth.

Bridging History and Modernity

Beyond traditional lectures, the Knights of Rizal plans to create spaces like the Rizal Action Center at Intramuros headquarters. Here, children will receive both nutritional support and lessons in basic literacy, rooted in the values Rizal championed.

Aragon explained their broader vision, noting the importance of starting conversations about Rizal’s relevance today. He shared plans to “offer workshops and training for teachers who wish to correctly teach Rizal’s philosophy and legacy,” highlighting the need to connect history with present-day issues.

By encouraging young Filipinos to reflect on Rizal’s legacy, the group hopes to spark a national dialogue that makes the hero’s teachings part of everyday life—and a guide to overcoming modern challenges.
