Defense and Sporting Arms Show 2026 Returns to SMX This July

The Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) is set to return for its 32nd edition, bringing together key players in the Philippine firearms industry while highlighting responsible firearm ownership, safety education, and the continued development of shooting sports. Organized by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD), the annual event will run from July 22 to 26 at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

Widely regarded as one of the Philippines' premier firearms and outdoor lifestyle events, DSAS will bring together firearms importers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, industry stakeholders, sports shooters, collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors will be able to explore displays featuring locally manufactured and imported firearms, ammunition, optics, tactical equipment, shooting accessories, outdoor gear, and the latest products from leading names in the firearms industry.

Firearm Safety and Responsible Ownership Take Center Stage

The opening ceremony will be attended by Senate President Pro Tempore Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri as Guest of Honor. Organizers said his participation reflects the continuing discussion on promoting responsible firearm ownership while recognizing the rights of licensed firearm holders alongside public safety concerns.

AFAD emphasized that the exhibition extends beyond product displays by serving as a platform for public education on lawful firearm ownership, safe handling, and responsible use.

AFAD President Aric Topacio underscored the principles that guide responsible firearm ownership.

“The firearms industry is not simply about commerce. It is about cultivating a community of responsible, law-abiding firearm owners who understand that every firearm carries with it a serious obligation,” Topacio said.

He also described the event as an educational initiative that promotes proper firearm practices.

“The Defense and Sporting Arms Show has always been an educational platform where we promote safe handling, proper storage, legal compliance, and responsible participation in shooting sports. We believe that informed and responsible citizens contribute to a safer society,” he added.

Topacio also addressed concerns over the criminal misuse of firearms, saying enforcement efforts should focus on those who violate the law rather than individuals who comply with legal requirements.

“Criminal acts should be met with swift justice against those who commit them. Law-abiding firearm owners who undergo licensing, background checks, and comply with existing regulations should not be equated with criminals. Public policy is strongest when it targets criminal behavior while respecting the rights of responsible citizens,” Topacio stressed.

He added that AFAD continues to support evidence-based policies that strengthen accountability and public safety without creating unnecessary burdens for licensed firearm owners, sports shooters, collectors, and enthusiasts who follow existing firearms regulations.

Educational Sessions and Industry Collaboration

AFAD said it continues to work closely with the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), local government units, and other government agencies to promote proper licensing procedures, firearm safety education, and compliance with Philippine firearms laws.

According to Topacio, the organization's longstanding collaboration with regulators demonstrates that responsible firearm ownership and public safety can advance together.

“Responsible gun ownership begins with respect for the law. We have consistently encouraged our members and the public to comply with licensing requirements, safety standards, and responsible handling practices. Effective enforcement of existing laws remains essential in keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals while protecting the rights of qualified, law-abiding citizens."

In addition to product exhibits, the 32nd DSAS will feature seminars, live demonstrations, product launches, and educational discussions covering firearm safety, marksmanship, sports shooting development, legal updates, and responsible ownership.

Since its inception more than three decades ago, AFAD has consistently promoted firearm safety, ethical business practices, and the responsible development of shooting sports in the Philippines through the Defense and Sporting Arms Show. The organization continues to advocate that firearm ownership is both a lawful privilege for qualified citizens and a serious responsibility that must be guided by education, proper training, accountability, and full compliance with Philippine laws.

For Filipinos, these efforts seek to foster a culture of responsible firearm ownership while reinforcing public awareness of safety, legal obligations, and the importance of keeping firearms in the hands of qualified, law-abiding individuals.
