The first-ever Women's Futsal World Cup will take place in the Philippines in 2025. The country’s hosting was confirmed by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) during the world football federation’s 74th Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.

“We are both humbled and honored by the faith and confidence that FIFA has placed in the Philippine Football Federation to stage a historic event not just for football and futsal, but for women’s sport,” said Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President John Anthony Gutierrez.

How it will unfold

There will be 16 teams competing, with the Philippines pre-qualified to serve as the host country.

The Asian Football Federation has been given three berths, followed by CAF (Africa) with two, Concacaf (North America, South America, Caribbean) with two, Conmebol (South America) with two, OFC (Oceania) with one, and UEFA (Europe) with four.

The top two teams from each group will move on to the knockout quarterfinals, while the remaining 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four for classification.

Empowering women

The competition is a part of FIFA's 2026–2029 Match Calendar, which attempts to improve women's competition.

“The Women’s International Match Calendar and the subsequent amendments to our regulations represent an important milestone in our pledge to take the women’s game to the next level by enhancing competitiveness across the world, particularly in those regions where women’s football is less developed and protecting the well-being of the players," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

According to the Futsal Women's Rankings, the Philippines is currently ranked 61st.
