Filipino Students Triumph At Global English Language Olympiad In Vietnam

Filipino students showcased their exceptional proficiency in English at the Global English Language Olympiad of Southeast Asia (GELOSEA) 2024 International Round, held in Da Nang, Vietnam. This prestigious event brought together young talents from across the region to compete in various English language disciplines.

GELOSEA, organized by Global League of Winners Inc. (GLOW), features categories for Kindergarten, six Primary Levels (Grades 1 to 6), four Secondary Levels (Secondary 1 to 4), and a Senior Secondary Level (Grades 11 & 12). The competition aims to promote excellence in English and boost tourism in Southeast Asia.

For Kindergarten and Primary Levels, the competition focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary and spelling, analogy, and grammar. At the secondary levels, participants were also tested on essay writing.

Highlights of Filipino Achievements

One of the standout participants was Erwin John Fruelda, a Grade 10 student from De La Salle Santiago Zobel Br. Rafael Donato FSC Night High School in Muntinlupa. Fruelda won a gold award in the Secondary 4 level. Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon praised Fruelda for his exceptional performance and representing both his school and the Philippines proudly.

Detailed Results of the Filipino Winners

Kindergarten to Primary Levels

Primary 2: Maxenne Gabrielle Aquino San Jose from Elizabeth Seton School South secured the Diamond award.

Primary 3: Shiv Francis Theodore Matondo Marabe from Stonyhurst Southville International School-Batangas, Keehra Mary Skye Ulanday Baroy from Merryland Montessori and High School, and Terrel Idriss Godric Caseria Castigador from Saint Mary's Academy of Iloilo City received Silver awards.

Primary 4: Ji Won Antiporda Kim and Alvonzo Leandros Talatala Arandia from Elizabeth Seton School South won Gold awards, while other students from the same school, as well as Merryland Montessori and High School, received Silver and Bronze awards.

Secondary Levels

Secondary 1: Lance Derald Pineda Auingan from Lyceum of Aparri, Renee Samantha Yarra Linaac from Child's Place Developmentally Appropriate Program School, and others received Silver awards.

Secondary 2: Angelika Belle Dioquino Dellosa from Sorsogon State University achieved a Gold award, with other students winning Silver awards.

Secondary 3: Multiple Diamond awards were secured by students from Philippine Science High School - Western Visayas Campus and other schools. Gold and Silver awards were also distributed among numerous Filipino participants.

Secondary 4: Sean Derrick Cua Chen from Wellspring Christian Family Schools and other students won Diamond and Gold awards.

Senior Secondary: Timothy Joseph Cruz Hormigos from De La Salle Santiago Zobel - Vermosa Campus and others received Silver awards.

The achievements of Filipino students at the GELOSEA 2024 International Round demonstrate the high level of English proficiency and academic excellence among the youth in the Philippines. 

Their success not only brings pride to their schools and families but also highlights the importance of fostering language skills through competitive platforms like GELOSEA.
