Henry Wong, a passionate mountaineer, has a unique adventure partner—his Philippine forest dog, Bundok. Together, they’ve climbed 14 mountains! Bundok isn’t just a dog; he’s the perfect trail companion. “Wala akong alinlangan na baka alagaan ko siya kasi si Bundok po napaka-behave po during trail tsaka masunurin,” Henry says. Not only is Bundok calm and obedient, but he also has an amazing sense of direction. Even on their first trip to a new place, Bundok seems to know the trail like he’s been there a thousand times. “Para po siyang nagiging isang tour guide,” Henry adds.

From Mountains to Beaches: Bundok’s Epic Adventures

But Bundok Isn't all about mountains—he’s got a love for adventure! In addition to conquering mountain peaks, Bundok and Henry have explored some of the most beautiful beaches across the Philippines. Their shared love for adventure is what keeps them going, and now they’re setting their sights on the ultimate challenge: Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the country. Talk about an exciting next step in their journey!

Training for Mt. Apo: Bundok’s Big Challenge

As Henry and Bundok gear up for their Mt. Apo adventure, they’re putting in some serious preparation. They’ve been hiking major mountains in Luzon to build up their strength and stamina. “Ang paghahanda po namin ni Bundok sa Mt. Apo ay ‘yung pag aakyat po namin ng mga major mountain dito sa Luzon para po pagdating po doon handa po ‘yung katawan namin,” Henry explains. Mt. Apo is no easy feat, but Henry and Bundok are ready to take on the challenge together.

A Legacy of Strength and Loyalty

Beyond the mountains, Bundok is helping highlight the significance of the Philippine forest dog (asong gubat), an indigenous breed with deep roots in Filipino culture. These dogs have been companions to Filipino ancestors for centuries, and today, people are advocating for their recognition as the country’s first purebred dog. Bundok’s journey is about more than just hiking—it’s about celebrating heritage, adventure, and the bond between man and dog.
