The House of Representatives passed a resolution suggesting that the Philippine Sports Commission induct Olympic double-gold winner Carlos Edriel "Caloy" Yulo into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame.
The gymnast will be enshrined in the esteemed hall under Republic Act 8757, which established the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame, according to House Resolution 2131, which was passed during the plenary session.
Immortalizing Yulo
The Philippine Sports Hall of Fame honors athletes who encourage young Filipinos to pursue excellence in their particular sports and act as role models for them.
At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Yulo accomplished a double-gold feat by ruling in both the men's vault and floor exercise competitions.
He was the first-ever Filipino athlete to achieve such a feat in its century-old participation in the Olympic Games.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, candidates must have won at least one bronze medal in an Olympic competition, according to the law.
Yulo’s other achievements
Over his career, Yulo has won 128 gold medals, 85 of which have come from domestic contests and 43 from foreign ones.
The resolution also emphasized Yulo's nine gold medals from the Southeast Asian Games in gymnastics, 10 Asian championship titles, and six World Championship medals (two gold, two silver, and two bronze).
