From Ring Icon To Global Inspiration: Pacquiao Receives Top Honor In Dubai

Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao has added another global recognition to his legendary career, this time in Dubai. The boxing icon received the Global Outstanding Sporting Career Award during the first World Sports Summit, held as part of the 13th Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award ceremony.

Now 47, the former eight-division world champion was honored for his 26-year boxing career, unmatched achievements, and the inspiration he brings to millions around the world. The award was presented by UAE National Olympic Committee president and Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

A Message for Dreamers Around the World

Pacquiao used his moment onstage to deliver a heartfelt message about hope, courage, and believing in impossible goals.

“This award is not just for me; it is for every dreamer who was told their goals were too big. In boxing, we fight with our fists, but in life, we must fight with our hearts to unite people. I am honored to stand here in Dubai, a city that proves that with vision, anything is possible,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum also highlighted Pacquiao’s influence beyond the sport, saying that honoring athletes like him shows “how one individual’s discipline and heart can inspire an entire generation across borders.” The ceremony took place last Dec. 29 and gathered sports leaders and global athletic figures from different fields.

A Career That Continues to Inspire Filipinos

Pacquiao’s latest honor comes shortly after being named Fighter of the Century by the World Boxing Council, adding another milestone to his decorated legacy. Even after decades in the ring, his impact continues to reach far beyond boxing.

For Filipinos, Pacquiao’s story remains a symbol of grit, faith, and determination, proof that someone who started with little can rise to the world stage. Recognitions like this don’t just celebrate his victories; they remind the nation that Filipino strength and talent can leave a lasting mark on the world, inspiring ordinary citizens and future athletes to dream bigger and push further.
