Meet Margarita Calsado, a brave mother and overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who has spent 14 years working in Oman to provide a better future for her children. Separated from her husband, she faced life’s challenges alone but never wavered in her determination to support her family. Her dedication was celebrated at the 14th OFW and Family Summit, organized by the Villar Foundation, when she became the grand winner of a Camella House and Lot.
Highlights of the Summit
The summit brought together over 3,000 OFWs and their families, featuring talks, panel discussions, and interactive booths on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, reintegration programs, and government support. Partner agencies—including DMW, OWWA, DOJ, TESDA, Pag-IBIG Fund, DTI, and private companies—offered on-site consultations and assistance, giving participants a direct avenue to voice concerns and receive guidance.
The event also included raffle draws for home appliances, livelihood packages, motorcycles, and the grand prize that changed Margarita’s life. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac attended, showing ongoing support for the summit and the community it serves.
A Life-Changing Moment
The ceremonial key was handed to Margarita by Senator Camille Villar, Former Senator Cynthia Villar, and Vista Land President Paolo Villar. Tearfully, she shared, “This is more than just a home. It’s the dream I’ve worked toward for my children and myself for 14 years. I am truly grateful.”
Her story is a heartwarming reminder of the rewards of perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to family. Now in its 14th year, the summit continues to celebrate OFWs, provide resources to strengthen families, and turn dreams into reality, reinforcing the Villar Foundation’s commitment to uplifting Filipino migrant workers.
