A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey reveals a significant drop in the happiness of Filipinos with their love life. The Fourth Quarter 2024 survey shows that only 46% of Filipinos report being “very happy” with their romantic relationships. This marks a record-low, the lowest in two decades of tracking this sentiment.

Decline in Love Life Happiness

The survey results indicate a sharp decline from 58% in December 2023 to just 46% in December 2024, reflecting a 12-point decrease—the largest in 20 years. Along with this drop, 36% of Filipinos feel they could be happier in their love life, while 18% reported having no love life at all. These figures highlight growing dissatisfaction and challenges in relationships for many Filipinos.

Love Languages: Acts of Service Lead the Way

Despite the decline in overall happiness, Filipinos continue to express love in various meaningful ways. The survey found that “Acts of Service” is the most common love language, with 67% of respondents saying they show love through helpful gestures like cooking, running errands, or doing chores. “Words of Affirmation” and “Quality Time” followed closely, both at 51%. Meanwhile, “Physical Touch” and “Giving Gifts” were less common at 29% and 33%, respectively.

Changing Trends in Valentine’s Day Gifts

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the survey reveals shifting preferences in gift-giving. Both men and women ranked “love and companionship” as their top Valentine’s wish, with 19% selecting it over material gifts. This marks a departure from last year when money was the most desired gift. For men, flowers, “any gift from the heart,” and money were next, while women also prioritized love, followed by money and flowers.
