The Dinagat Islands marked its 19th Charter Day on Wednesday, October 1 with the vibrant “Bugkosan sa Isla” Festival, a celebration of culture, unity, and economic triumphs.
“Bugkosan sa Isla,” which means to bind, unite, merge, or gather, commemorates the creation of Dinagat as the fifth province of the Caraga Region and serves as a thanksgiving for the collective progress of the people.
Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. underscored the importance of togetherness in achieving milestones. “The festival reminds us that progress is possible when we come together—the local governments, communities, and every Dinagatnon—toward one goal: a brighter, more resilient province,” he said.
Dinagat’s Economic Rise
Fresh data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed that Dinagat Islands recorded the fastest economic growth in Caraga in 2024 and placed fourth nationwide, a remarkable feat for one of the country’s youngest provinces.
For Governor Demerey, this achievement is proof of the islanders’ resilience and shared purpose. “The Bugkosan Festival is a powerful symbol of unity, gratitude, and shared purpose, and a heartfelt tribute to the strength of our people and the spirit that binds us together,” he added.
The Provincial Tourism and Cultural Office (PTCO) described the celebration as a reflection of the island’s roots, struggles, and victories—where tradition meets innovation.
